But is the company as good as its promise?

With a mission to build “profitable, ongoing relationships by protecting people and what matters most to them,” F.E. Moran was founded in 2003 by Brett Bean.

With the belief that he can build a company that is different from any other in the industry, he focused on a business organization that’s relationship driven that can provide top-notch customer service, quality installations, and state-of-the-art monitoring services.

And so F.E. Moran was born.

From the time it was built, the company has been earning awards left and right, including the Circle of Excellence Award given by First Alert Professional Security Systems in the years 2007, 2008, and 2011. The company is also included in the 25th Annual SDM Top 100, a list of the 100 top alarm companies in the US.

The company remained true to its oath of quality monitoring service. It has become popular with both the residential and commercial clients. In fact, SDM again included F.E. Moran in its list of top 50 alarm companies with the highest revenues in 2015.

F.E. Moran is a 5-Diamond CSAA-certified alarm monitoring company, a feat that is given to a small percentage of players in the industry. What this means is that you, as a customer is assured of an excellent customer service and a swifter response time during alarm triggers.

It covers the states of Kansas, Illinois, and Michigan; it is also UL-listed and FM-approved, cementing its status of strict compliance to national standards.

In 2012, F.E. Moran acquired two leading alarm monitoring companies of the Midwest – Myers Protection Services (Indianapolis) and SNC Security Systems (Hutchinson) – adding 11,000 new clients to its roster. The acquisition also resulted in a $275,000 increase in RMR for F.E. Moran.

With all these awards and high-quality of service, the company’s rates are not as expensive as you might think.

F.E. Moran also maintains an A+ rating on BBB. The company has 3 complaints filed, with 2 out of the 3 complaints touching on cancellation of contracts.

Plan Pricing and Services

F.E. Moran serves both residential and commercial clients.

It provides home security solutions like intrusion detection, monitored smoke detection, carbon monoxide monitoring, temperature monitoring, water detection monitoring, live video surveillance and video monitoring.

And as mentioned earlier, the company also services commercial clients. Its services include intrusion detection, fire alarm systems, access control, video surveillance, clean agent fire suppression, environmental monitoring, maintenance, and inspections.

In addition to these services, there is also what the company calls as EAS or Electronic Article Surveillance. This would include systems for customer counting, tags, and labels for security accessories, metal detection and the Cube which controls and monitors KPIs.

Installation and activation fee for a landline service would cost you $99, which is less expensive as compared to the others in the industry.

Your monthly rate for a basic security plan moving forward costs $29.99. If it’s a wireless system, however, you would have to shell out $250 for the installation and activation. Monthly rate for wireless security is $42.99.

All new systems would include the following:

One of the considered downfalls of the company is the equipment warranty. When other companies in the industry have a one-year to even a lifetime equipment warranty, F.E. Moran only gives you 90 days. This just means that you have to pay for any equipment repair/replacement if it is already beyond 3 months.

There is a remedy to this, though. If you want to extend the warranty, there is a price of $10 to pay for every month extended. If you are also considering insurance to be added, you need to add another $10 per month to your rates.

While some companies increase their rates after a specific period, F.E. Moran does not specify whether it also does. This may be contained in its contract but if it’s not, you can check this out with a company representative prior to signing up.

Top Tips for Buyers

The company offers security systems from Honeywell as well as other brands. Honeywell is the more popular option; it is user-friendly and less expensive.

Other brands of security system include those by DMP and Interlogix (by GE), with the latter being a better option due to its high ratings in the field of wireless systems. GE is also known to have the most reliable platform that ensures safer connectivity with numerous other wireless devices.

You may also find it nice that the company has pet-friendly sensors and that there is a low possibility of your pet triggering the alarm.

Before signing up, make sure to read everything in the contract, and ask if something is not clear.

Cancellation and Transfer Policies

F.E. Moran has a 3-year contract. Should you wish to cancel your subscription to the company’s services before your contract is up, you have to let the company know at least 30 days prior the end date. This is because for you to cancel your account there are papers F.E. Moran needs to send you, which you need to fill out and sign.

Once the papers are filled out and signed, you have to send them back to the company, after which, you have to wait for 30 days prior the actual cancellation.

If the contract is pre-terminated, you will be required to pay for 80% of the remaining payments due under the contract.

The cancellation procedures sound easy, actually but there are a number of dissatisfied customers who posted online complaints about the difficulties of cancelling an account with F.E. Moran.

There are those who complain about having been made to pay for the remaining months (which is agreed to in the contract), those who were not aware of the cancellation procedures, to customers who have something to say about the supposedly bad customer service they received from the company.

If you wish to have a new owner take over your account with F.E. Moran, you can do so by calling the company. The new owner not only takes over your account, he/she will also be taking charge of paying for the services until the contract expires.

Unfortunately, there is no information available online about how to transfer the account from one location to another. You would need to talk to F.E. Moran about this – if such transfer is possible.
