NextAlarm Review – Good, But Not There Yet?

According to the Company website, its monitoring plan makes sure that you are notified via email, an SMS, or a phone call should there be intrusions at home or your property where NextAlarm is installed and activated.

So, let’s look at NextAlarm. Here, you will be introduced to the Company, from its history, ratings, to even NextAlarm complaints, if there are any.

NextAlarm’s History and Reputation

NextAlarm was founded in 2000 by a group of security alarm experts that has more than 50 years of combined experience.

NextAlarm works with your current system (if you already have) or will help set it up for you if you don’t have one in place yet. And with the help of the internet, you can now remotely monitor your home through your computer or your smartphone.

NextAlarm boasts of a strong customer base in the whole of US and Canada. And with a lot of satisfied customers, NextAlarm continues to strive to innovate, ensuring the customers get a high number of features for a low cost.

Being one of the leaders in innovation, NextAlarm introduced V-Notify, a first in the industry. With V-Notify, you can be informed via SMS, email, or a phone call whenever there is an intrusion at home. Also, it can also connect you to the authorities, the fire department, or the paramedics when needed.

And while the company glorifies itself on its innovations, the BBB, however, tells another story. With an F rating which when quantified, equates to a score in between zero and 59.99. The company struggles with its responsiveness to complaints filed.

As of this time, there are six out of seven NextAlarm security system reviews, all negative, that were not addressed.

The manuals, tutorials and the section discussing the frequently asked questions are downloadable. You may also choose to get in touch with an installer in your neighborhood, although, these would require you to shell out a few dollars.

In terms of warranties, the equipment has a one-year warranty from the date of its original purchase. The warranty includes repairs or replacements of the defective part, as long as you are the original purchaser.

You can also go for NextView wireless security cameras, which is another service provided for by NextAlarm. Through this, you can view real-time or recorded video from the internet or your iPhone at $4.99 per month. You can also include storage specifications with NextView. See below:

  • 2 weeks storage: $6.99 per month
  • 1-month storage: $7.99 per month
  • 2 months storage: $8.99 per month

Take note that these are fees on top of the NextView basic service.

As with some other alarm companies that increase monitoring fees over time without prior notice, which usually happens after the end of the contract. But with NextAlarm, it claims that it doesn’t “artificially” increase the price to cover the cost of the equipment which is in fact, already owned by the homeowner.

Top Tips for Buyers

NextAlarm can be purchased through third-party resellers.

Before purchasing, make sure that your current system is compatible with that of NextAlarm. Note that as per NextAlarm reviews online, the product is not compatible with garage door sensors, recessed door sensors, panic buttons, or any other home automation equipment.

You may also need to purchase additional hardware – like for smoke detector or a motion sensor – when using NextAlarm.

The company also mentioned that its motion sensors are pet immune but have never specified any specific weight limit.

Cancellation and Transfer Policies

The plan does not come with term contracts nor does it come with a cancellation penalty.

If you have just recently bought the product and changed minds, you can still return the security system as long as it is within the 30-day period from the date of purchase. Simply send back the product to the reseller and you will be refunded the full amount.

Make sure to have all its accessories complete, else, the amount of the lacking component will be deducted from the refund.

If you’ve been with NextAlarm for quite some time now and wish to cancel, you just need to log in to your account and open a Customer Service Ticket. In your cancellation request, indicate the specific date when you would like the services to end. You will be refunded a pro-rated amount if you have paid in advance.

You can always transfer the ownership of the alarm system to another if you no longer want it. But you have to remember that once the ownership is transferred to another, you lose the warranty. You have to be the original purchaser for you to take advantage of the 12-month warranty.

But there seems to be no information about how to transfer ownership of the alarm system.

There is also nothing has been said about how to move NextAlarm from one home to another. You may want to discuss these two things with the local resellers.

You just have to scan through the complaints filed against NextAlarm for you to stop and think twice about this alarm system.

There are minimal complaints related to the hardware being defective but whenever there is a complaint, these complaints seem to be ignored. NextAlarm needs to learn a bit or two in terms of customer service. Not resolving 6 out of 7 concerns? Alarming!

There are also good reviews, of course. But despite the few good reviews, the negative ones are glaring and unless these are fixed, you may want to look at other options.
