SafeStreets USA Review – A Lopsided Deal?

hidden camera on the streets

People in the past have made use of different means for fulfilling the need for security like fencing off the property and the use of weapons for self-defense.  With the advancement of technology, the need for security evolves as well.

The use of surveillance cameras and alarm systems has brought about a whole new meaning to security, especially home and business security. Among the security establishments widely used in the country is SafeStreets USA.

Here we will take a look at its plans/prices and read some SafeStreet ADT reviews.

SafeStreets USA’s History and Reputation

The safestreets USA was founded on June 6, 1989. It claims to be among the oldest and largest security companies in the nation.

Apart from short biographical sketches of its executive team which gave some hints of its early days, the company website doesn’t state any more information about its beginnings.

The merging with different companies may be the reason why SafeStreets USA has an extensive national coverage.

Despite its age in the industry, SafeStreets USA has an array of innovative equipment, some of which aren’t available with other ADT-authorized companies. A mark of a true veteran in any discipline.

Armed with both experience and the latest technology, SafeStreets USA is a top contender in ADT dealing and the security alarm system businesses.

The situation of SafeStreets USA is very interesting. has rated this company an A+. Despite the high rating, the company has received a startling amount of complaints and negative reviews.

Out of the 22 posted SafeStreets USA security system complaints, only one of them is a positive one. None are neutral and the rest are negative. Many of the negative reviews, if not all, are of similar nature to the complaints.

The complaints were mostly about advertising/sales issues and problems with the service the customers received. Many of them complained of the company holding off plan cancellations making consumers pay penalties and termination fees.

Plan Pricing and Services

SafeStreets USA offers various monitoring plans that suit your variety of needs, namely:

  • Burglary monitoring
  • Carbon monoxide monitoring
  • Fire and smoke monitoring
  • Flood monitoring
  • Medical alert monitoring
  • Temperature monitoring

It has five plans advertised on its website for the various monitoring services it offers. Here is a table to illustrate the price differences.

Standard MonitoringPremium CellularADT Pulse® Tier I

ADT Pulse® Tier II

+ Video Security

ADT Pulse® Tier III + Video Security & Home
$36.99 / month$44.99 / month$52.99 / month$58.99 / month$62.99 / month

In addition, all plans have the following free basic features:

  • ADT 24/7 Monitoring
  • Digital Keypad
  • Entryway Contacts
  • Keychain Remote
  • Pet Sensitive Motion Detector
  • High-Decibel Alarm
  • Backup Battery
  • Yard Sign & Window Decals

Standard Monitoring is the cheapest plan and contains the most fundamental and most needed features which are necessary for any home security at $36.99 per month. The ADT Monitoring here is through landline so having an existing landline or purchasing one is imperative for those opting for this plan.

Premium Cellular gets a bit of an upgrade by using wireless communication for your ADT Monitoring at $44.99 per month. The extra $8 saves you the problem of acquiring a landline and instead uses your cell phone as a medium. In addition to the basic features, it has CellGuard® and Cellular Primary Unit.

ADT Pulse® Tier 1 includes all of the Standard Monitoring features plus email and text notification through your smartphone, laptop or any similar device. Installing its security application on your phone allows you to remotely arm or disarm your system.

Tier II gets fancy by giving you real-time security footage of your home or business while Tier III amps up by allowing you to control your thermostat, lighting, small appliances, and doors.

According to SafeStreets USA’s Terms & Conditions, you will be required to get a 36-month (24-month in California) contract for the first time; possibly to pay for the equipment you get for free. This is to be expected with most other security monitoring companies.

In addition, the website makes no mention of an increase in price with your subscription.

SafeStreets USA doesn’t say anything about device warranties. This may be worrisome if you encounter any problems with the devices.

But further investigation indicates that monitoring plans using ADT equipment are backed up by ADT’s Quality Service Plan. QSP entitles customers to a 90-day fix and replace warranty at no extra cost. After this, you will be charged $25 trip charge for every service call.

Top Tips for Buyers

You may also want to ask for any other charges and fees that weren’t advertised. This includes thoroughly reading the terms and conditions and asking specific questions. Many other companies take advantage of consumers by inserting a clause written in fine print.

It would be interesting to note that SafeStreets USA offers a cheaper plan worth $28.99 that it doesn’t advertise in their website. And since it’s cheap, the plan is not covered with warranty. It also has a $25 activation fee.

SafeStreets USA has lots of feedback on some websites but it isn’t all good. Many of them claim incompetence but these complaints came forward within the past 3 years. So we suggest you to keep your options open.

Cancellation and Transfer Policies

The website does not explicitly state what its policies are if the consumer wishes to cancel and/or choose another provider. There is no mention of how long the consumer is free to do so.

But digging deeper, we were able to uncover that once subscribers wish to prematurely cancel the contract; they will be obliged to pay 75% of the remaining balance.

What’s worse is that, despite the paying the balance due to cancellation, the home security system/ equipment remains to be the property of ADT so you will be obliged to return it to them.

In addition, it isn’t stated what can be done if a person wishes to transfer to another home.

But SafeStreets USA has a six-month money-back guarantee for equipment installed professionally.

The website’s lack of information on these policies raises many questions. Therefore, it is imperative that you ask a SafeStreets USA representative the right questions.

What’s the Bottom Line?

  • “A+” BBB rating
  • Wide coverage
  • Updated equipment and technology

  • Numerous negative reviews and complaint
  • Inconspicuously located Terms and Conditions link on the Website
  • Obscurely structured Terms and Conditions
  • Lack of information on warranties, etc.
  • Equipment needs to be returned despite paying the cancellation fee

It might be important to note that its President himself has taken note of the complaints and reviews so it would just be a matter of time for the company to get some things straightened up.

Take care when you choose SafeStreets USA. Make a list of the things it hasn’t mentioned and ask the agent or representative these things. This way, you will be aware of what you will be paying for and for how long you’ll be putting up with it.

But if it’s still shady after some effort, you better look elsewhere more transparent.
